The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, you'll find an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
