Criminal Methodology
Regarding inquiries concerning why smugglers utilize a method that is especially affected by weather elements rather than simpler to operate drones, authorities explained that "Atmospheric equipment are rudimentary tools used by illegal traders - they are less expensive than drones for moving tobacco products from Belarus."
Law Enforcement Objectives
Representatives further stated that "The objective of our agencies is to seize the largest possible volumes of smuggled items and to detain organisers and perpetrators so that this activity become economically unsustainable and present no risk to passenger aircraft."
European Tensions
These airspace violations occur during a period of heightened tension in Europe following multiple unmanned aircraft violations that have created aviation problems across European nations.
Recent incidents in nearby states have prompted European leaders to fast-track conversations about improving airspace protection throughout the continent.
